WIP Wednesday

It's that time again for an update on my WIP.
Cutting table is now in place, no legs for it yet, so it is balancing on a dining table that has been extended.  It is really nice and stable, just not the height I want it yet.
All my batting, stabilizer's, and papers are on rolls located near the head of the table for easy roll off to cut to length needed.  I just hung closet hanger brackets on the wall, and spaced them the distance to fit across the width of my table. Then placed some inexpensive dowls for the rolls to hang on.  Easy and very affordable for organizing all those rolls.

My "Hearts Desire" blocks and borders are laid out on the table. Block 4 (first one of the four) is still in beginning stages so not much to see at this point.  Once I get one finished, I'll share.

My design wall is up now too.  I used three 2x4 sheets of Styrofoam panels (I think they were about 2.00 each).

"Flying Colors"  is on the design wall.  Two more strips in the center, then a border before going on to the outer blocks to make this quilt finish queen size.

I've finally been able to put the templates into pdf files for those who want to download them.  I'll share it on my next update to "Flying Colors".

This block is so versatile.  I am amazed at all the different looks you can get with it.  To see some of the layouts read my older posts.

Well, this is where I am right now this Wednesday morning.
Have a fun and creative day everyone.  : )

Does anyone know the name of this floral?
All I know is it is a perennial and grows about 18" to 22" high.

WIP Wednesday

Yesterday I had planned to upload my WIP.  But my energy level crashed by the time I returned home from all the day's errands. It was a long, long day.  So here is where I am at as of Wednesday - June 8, 2011.

Home Sweet Home:  First block is done.  This is a fun little wall hanging from Ajpadilla's website (link is posted on my links page).  I am making this to hang someplace in or near my entry of my house.  Here are some closeups of the first block.

And here is the second block still in progress.

Hearts Desire:  I am still working -little by little- on my fourth set of blocks.  I had to go back and remove all my applique from the first of the set that I did as I had stitched all the vines to the wrong side of the fabric.
But here is where I am at now.  I just LOVE how this block is turning out.

So far here is all the previous blocks put on the wall .  I can't wait to play with the layouts once I get these block fours done.

I am setting up a real design wall.  Using styro. backing with flannel over the top (maybe) - lol.  I also have my cutting table, finally out of storage, and here waiting for me to set up in my room.  Photo below of my styro. pcs and table top.  Hopeing to get all this set over the next few days so that I can get back to work and catch up on more of my projects that are getting to the larger stages.

I know, this photo doesn't really look like much -- but wait until you see these pcs. all set up. : )

Lastly I'd like to share a photo of one of my garden flowers currently blooming  - black Iris.

Hugs!

Myasthenia Gravis

Today I ran across a great blog by a Myasthenia Gravis suffer that I wanted to share.  If you have never heard of  (Myasthenia Gravis or MG for short) read Marks blog as he journey's along  from diagnosis to most recent post.

I know, this is my sewing/quilting/embroidery blog, so why am I putting a post about Myasthenia Gravis (MG) here?  Well, it's because I am a MG suffer myself, and I am considering putting a page on my blog about how I deal with MG in hope that it might be able to help other's who are still trying to cope with the ups and downs of this disorder.  I can tell you it has been a roller coaster ride for me, for several years.  And I still have some very frustrating days, but I am getting better and better at finding way's to get my life back to as normal as possible.

For example - today I totally cleaned the refrigerator out, scrubbing it back to look like new. : )
I worked on my "Home Sweet Home - wall hanging", watered the garden,  juniper shrubs and still was able to keep up on my normal house hold chores (dishes, kitchen cleaning, sweeping, making the bed, etc.).  I even had time to sit a relax a bit early today.  : )    This evening I plan on sitting in front of the tv and working some more on my "Hearts Desire" blocks.   I was getting tired by the time I was done with my chores, but I still had the energy to do a bit more if I had to.  So all in all, today was a pretty good day of productivity.  : )

Tomorrow is Wednesday - so after my errands and chores I'll share my W.I.P.  : )

Have a great evening and joyful day tomorrow. : )

WIP Wednesday

Today is Wednesday and I'm here to share with you some of my WIP's (Works in Progress).

Ever go around cleaning or gardening and while your busy  you see other things that need your attention, but a few minutes later you have totally forgot what it was you were doing or what it was you wanted to remember to take care of?  Well, I decided I needed an apron or two to work in.  One for the housework, and one for yard/garden. Each with a pocket to carry a notepad and pen in, where I could quickly write my "need to do" list .

My mother has always had her favorite old vintage apron  that she wears daily for cooking.  So on last visit, I picked up one of her's to use as a pattern.

I have three cut out, (one is going to be for Mom as her's is getting pretty worn out).
I am now adding the binding.  Pockets are coming last as I want to embroider on them.
Ran out of binding (thought 2 packages would take care of it, but I need another 18" or so for each).  So here is how they look at this point, until I get to the store and pick up more bias tape.  I'll work on their pockets this week and get the embroidery work done.

I am also working on Hearts Desire.  Remember I said this is my very first time ever doing hand appliqué?
Well, I am getting a little better at it, but have learned several things "Not to Do". LOL  My first few blocks I had a light gray pencil that is made for fabric and erasable.   The last three blocks I misplaced my pencil and used a darker gray.  Guess what!  I can't erase the lines. : (  I have already appliquéd all the pcs on (still need to do my detail stitching), and I'm worried now that the lines that are showing, I'll not be able to remove.  If they won't, then I'm going to quilt the background in gray thread and follow some of these lines to cover up my mistake.  The pencil is from the same pack as the other erasable pencils, only this one doesn't have an eraser on it. Maybe that is a clue that it doesn't erase?  Duh!

I've had very little time to commit to sewing the past week or two, and my appliqué work has been the only thing I really have gotten done in that department. .  I've been really busy weeding flower beds, planting gardens, sowing seeds, and trying to keep everything watered.    But -I'd do it all over and over if it meant the end of the cold weather.

 I love spring. : )

Lost track of time.

Oh my gosh, I didn't realize it had been so long since I last posted.  It just goes to show how time fly's when your busy.  And Busy I have been indeed.  Planting garden, weeding flowerbeds, mowing lawns, organizing my sewing room AGAIN ( you see, I'm still unpacking boxes that have been stored up in the upper bedroom for years).  I'm finally just getting around to try to work all that fabric, notions, batting, and other supplies into my little sewing studio.  It is not going to fit I can tell you that.  But at least I am finding long lost items I've been needing and holding off re-buying as I knew they were here someplace.

I also have been busy working on my Heart's Desire blocks and will post them soon I promise.
Plus i did get a  little more done on Flying colors.  So that is coming up as well.
I'm actually hoping for some rain so that I have a good excuse to stay indoors and catch up- : )

I feel a little guilty sometimes, seeing all the disasters happening across the mid USA and not being close enough to lend a helping hand personally.  My heart and prayers go out to all who have suffered loss of property or loved ones.. Joplin Missouri - Your in many many people's prayers tonight.  Hugs to you all.
